Bob has his own page!  Click here for more pictures...

Meet Roberts Roan Quincy, a 1998 bay roan AQHA gelding.  Bob is one that we've raised.  He is 16 hands tall and tips the scales at 1400 pounds.  He's got great bone and feet, sporting a "dainty" size three shoe up front.    Bob has been a real asset as our main "get it done" man.  He is one of very few horses that can do any aspect of ranch work day in and day out without issue.  Anyone can ride him, including our young kids, he has no bad habits.  He's sweet, hardworking and easy on the eyes.  Bob also gets to go to town for barrel racing and ranch horse competitions.  He won the 2005 ND Horsefest Ranch Horse Competition Ladies Division with Brenda on board.  He earned the second high score overall, against the Men's Division, where there were 20 more possible points!  He was started on barrels during the summer of 2005, and has competed in BBR, NWBRA and NBHA barrel racing events.  He's been to Oklahoma City to the BBR finals (where he pulled a check), to Gillette for the NWBRA finals twice and to Bismarck and the state NBHA finals twice.  I ran him for about 18 months until Bob decided he was really not in a big hurry to get to the barrels.  He's been ridden the entire 2008 season by the kids.  He's waited his WHOLE life to be a kid horse!

Dean gets ready to bridle Captain

Captain is a 1995 sorrel tobiano gelding.  He stands about 15 hands and will weigh just over 1000 pounds.  He is another horse we bought from the Solid Foundation Ranch, and we've been happy with him.  He hadn't been used in a few years, so it did take a fair amount of time to get him soft and quiet again.  He's a firecracker!  Cow wrestling is his claim to fame- he pays no attention to the screamin', snot blowing cows that would scare the life out of most horses.  He'll take a bumping and not get upset in the least.  He's got a Ph. D. in being tough- in more than one way!  He's spent plenty of quality time with the "thinking post," learning how to focus all that energy on the job instead of digging holes.  The good news is, we should be ready to install a basement, septic tank or bury a time capsule in the hole that he's dug.  After 45 days of hard-time calving duty, he no longer raises a toe to bother digging.  He's learned that it might end up being a long day!  He should be great on those hot, 15 hour summer days of tracking cattle in the badlands!  He's proven that he will not be wore out by work, and is a very honest, hard working dude.  Nick (age 8) has been riding Captain this summer and is trying to buy him off Grampa!

BR Fritz Command
2002 Bay AQHA Gelding

BR Fritz Command ( Montelius) is a big 2002 model bay gelding.  He  measures 16.2+ hands and weighs over 1400 pounds.  He's put in some good hours the last few summers, and is an awesome ranch horse!  He's been to the badlands a lot, and is naturally good on his feet.     Monte is a real "get-it done" horse, and not much rattles him anymore.  He gets hauled now as a horse that we know we can rely on to do a tough job.  He is very aggressive with cattle and won't take his eye off them once he's locked on.  He cuts cattle like a little horse- in the dirt and super catty!  He is another one that we raised, out of the same mare as Bob.  His sire, Red Dee Fritz, is a son of the great Friendly Fritz.  Montelius has a big, big motor and should be a header's dream and a great barrel horse soon!   He moves classy enough and has enough scope to really excel in the English show pen.   He's already been hauled to some events and will have wheels under him a lot next summer.  He was smack in the middle of the 3D (1.4 seconds off) with 71 horses the fourth time he was entered!  With limited hauling in 2009, he placed in the top of the 3D locally and mid 3D behind several NFR horses at the NWBRA finals in Gillette.  You can view his video at this Facebook link.  This was monte's 10th JP and first "big one." http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?v=app_2392950137&id=733557615#/video/video.php?v=153263327615

Montelius got his barn name from the movie Monte Walsh... remember the colt that bucked all the way through town, into the drugstore, through the mud, etc., etc., etc.? Thank goodness he got THAT out of his system!

For Sale.

Blanton's Blue Sage
2002 AQHA Blue roan Mare

Sage as a four year old.

Sage and Perry with the same smile!  Calving 2009

Marlin Rambosek drags a whopper to the fire.  Yes, that calf is as big as he looks in the picture!
Rettinger Ranch Branding 2009

Sage is a pretty mare with a big attitude!  She is a go-getter and is a finshed ranch horse.  Perry has roped off her a lot, and she has five seasons of calving under her belt already.  She was raised and started by Andrea Buerkle.  She'll travel rough country all day, and will go absolutely anywhere.  Sage can watch a cow and has been heeled off in the arena a few times too!  She is unstoppable in the branding pen, she'll drag a hundred calves one after the other!  Right now, she's getting miles and wet saddle blankets. She rides in a bosal or a bit, she walks faster than a 16 hand horse and is chock full of try and grit.  She'd be a killer breakaway or bulldogging horse- has the mind to handle pressureFOR SALE, $6000.

Beduinos Cash Jet
2000 Solid Bay APHA Mare

2006 was her first fall at the ranch.  Here she is looking for cows in section 21.

Daisy at her first NWBRA finals after 4 months of barrel training in 2007.

Now she's really stepped out of her comfort zone!  Following Elli and Bob at the 2009 New England Harvest Fest Parade.

Calving 2009- Daisy drags a spunky calf out of the snow and into the barn.

Here she is hauling the first of a set of twins to warmer quarters.  Calving 2009.

This is "Daisy," a little mare that we were lucky enough to nab out of a loose horse sale in Dickinson in September 2006.  She came from a man in Medora, who had ridden her quite a bit until she was 4 and was bred.  She weaned a really exceptional filly after the sale and went right to work here at the ranch.  She is all business and handles herself extremely well in big country and knows cattle.  She's really gritty, but has a tendency to be cinchy.  She's not friendly, but she is a WORKER!  She's turning into a great barrel horse- she loves it!  Daisy has an aggressive, four wheel drive style and SUPER powerful turns! She has also become a real asset on the ranch.  She was not run at all in 2008, due to an injury (wire cut).  She came back great in 2009, and I have high hopes for her in 2010.  Here is a link to one of her 2009 runs, the Rockin' the Bakken race in Williston in July.  http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?v=app_2392950137&ref=name&id=733557615#/video/video.php?v=103299467615

Hesa Hi Fortune
2003 Grey Gelding
(Jazzin Hi by Merridoc x Klu's Fortune by Six Fortunes)

"Blue"  is another one that our friend Jamie sent up from the track.  He is 16 hands and just as sweet as he looks!  We got him in December 2008 as a project to ride and sell.  He's been ridden on the ranch some, and graduated quickly to a "kid safe" mount.  He spent a few months at DSU, as a loaner for a great student to ride.  Blue proved to be careful, gentle and dependable.  He has a great future as an English horse, 4-H horse or trail horse.  Although he could surprise me, I don't think he will have the quick speed to be a high-powered barrel horse, however he would certainly make a fun 3D or 4D horse.  Blue will crib if he is penned up with nothing to do.  Sold!

HH Sophia
2007 Bay AQHA Mare
(Zip Cash x Poco Tess)

Sophia on her first day at the ranch.  Elli is checkin' to see what flavor we got.

Sophia as a yearling wearing Elli's little saddle.  What a big girl!

I bought Sophia from Tess Hansen as a weanling in 2007.  I need to get some recent pictures of her- she is big and pretty!  She's a kind eyed little mare with a big hip and hocks and knees built in the dirt.  I had Jeremy Means ride her a week for me as a long two year old.  She may see some calving time in 2010, followed by an easy year of learning the ropes on the ranch and maybe walking the barrel pattern.  If everything works out, I will futurity her as a 5 year old.  Gotta be a ranch horse first though!

Patches
2006 Grade Paint Gelding

Patches looking for cows in 2009.

Dean bought Patches as a yearling because he loved his "Little Joe" color!  Perry started riding him the spring of his 3 year old year and got several good days of cow work done on him.  He's put together right, and although I could live without the spots, I have a feeling I will be stealing him to start on barrels.  He has a great mind and is very mature for a 3 year old, so he could be a futurity project.  In the meantime, I am sure he will enjoy his first year of calving duty in 2010!

SOLD Ranch horses

Jess Copy
2002 AQHA Sorrel Gelding

"Jim (also known as JC)" is a son of Jess Special (Mr Jess Perry x daughter of Special Effort) and out of an own daughter of Duplicate Copy (Go Man Go).  He came to us courtesy of our good friend, Jamie, who is a QH Race horse trainer from Louisiana.  Jamie spends time in ND when she can, and knew that Jim would fit right in here.  Jim is smart and quiet and has had some pasture and trail riding since his arrival in late July 2006.  He is proving to be VERY quiet and extremely gentle!

SOLD!  Congrats to the Dahl family on a nice horse for everyone!

Moxis Smokey Too
2001 AQHA Black Gelding

"Bart" has progressed quickly to a near finished ranch horse.  He's coal black, about 15 hands and 1100 pounds.  He was raised and started by Bette Wold from Plaza, ND.  Bette and her daughter, Shena, did a really good job getting a nice handle on this colt.  They showed him in Western Pleasure, Reining, Western Riding, and Trail.  He's pretty relaxed with the sights and sounds of the shows.  Bart has a smooth gait and trots out so nice and relaxed.  He's bred for speed, but has that show horse lope down to a "T." In fact, he prefers to be rather slow with everything!   Click here to see his pedigree- packed full of BIG names.  Bart is quiet and friendly and starting to handle himself nicely in the badlands pastures.  He's got some grit and try- he'd scramble up anything I pointed him at.  I've got him trotting a nice barrel pattern and finishing him will be a snap with as broke as he is.   He's roping calves like he's done it for 100 years and will hold the rope as Perry gets down to doctor- this horse can make you a one- man calf treating machine!  He has bucked in the past, he hasn't offered while being ridden since he started "Rancher Boot Camp" last fall, he did get startled and buck while tied to the fence at our branding in April, but went to work with no fuss.  He handled about 50 big, soggy 300 pound calves without batting an eye- just jogged into the pen, roped one and logged to the fire- this is one TOUGH dude!.  He's cute, compact and thickly muscled. SOLD- we hear Bart has turned into a fancy pickup horse and is living in MN, we're so excited to hear he's got a job!

Thunder
Very, very old grade bay gelding

Does a picture really say a thousand words?  This one sure does!  We bought Thunder from the Boy's Ranch in Minot last fall.  He has special nutritional needs and needs to be fed like CRAZY to keep any weight on him.  It's worth it, though- he is careful with the kids and is teaching them how to enjoy riding.  He may be old, but he is still responsive and will even LOPE if he thinks the kids are sure that's what they want.  He's been tagging along to the barrel races and Nick clocked a blazing 75 second run on him on him in August.  SOLD!  Thunder is off to teach the 5 Sailer kids how to LOVE riding!  Nick and Elli outgrew him.

TK Special Win
2004 APHA Bay Overo Gelding

Pictures taken summer, 2006.  This colt's sire is double bred Leo and his dam is a daughter of Special Task (Special Effort) and out of a Dash for Cash daughter.  He is bold and curious!  "Junior " is growing up nicely and is spending lots of time tied up and being handled.  He is really quiet and it takes a LOT to rattle or spook him.  He's one of those horses that understands concepts after being shown once.  Rarely does he pitch a fit or resist.  He is going to be a bomb-proof horse at a young age!   SOLD!  Junior took a trip all the way to Nova Scotia, Canada!

Buerkles Crockett

Crockett is a 2005 model grey gelding that Perry got in trade for riding a mare for Andrea Buerkle.  He's bred for performance and looks like a winner!  A cuter head has never been seen like the one this guy sports.  He's enjoying green grass and the company of Junior.  SOLD!

This is Shadowed Diamond, a 2001 bay tobiano mare, affectionately nicknamed "Joni Bucker" by our 3 year old daughter. Joni is bred to fly!  Her sire is Treasured Shadow (Treasured Too) and her dam, Diamond is Forever, is an own daughter of Kitaman.  For her complete pedigree, click this link:  http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/shadowed+diamond.  Joni is still a little green, but is only lacking miles and wet saddle blankets.  She is a smart mare, so her training is advancing quickly.  Joni's great with lateral movement and collection.  She can side pass, half pass, two track.  In addition, she can move her shoulder and hip independently and complete both front and hind pivots.  She's soft in the face, poll, neck, shoulders, ribs and hips.  She's already been to the badlands and crosses the creeks and rivers like an old pro!  JB is a big, free mover and is quiet and nearly spook-free on the trails.  We used her for cow work last fall and she'll be doused in wet saddle blankets this summer.  This mare was purchased from Dakota Stables in Dickinson, ND.  They have many very nicely bred horses for sale at this time!  Joni is the second horse we've purchased and one of many we've ridden for Dakota Stables.
Joni has found a new home in Colstrip, MT.  See her in the Montana barrel races in 2007!
Congratulations and Thank you to Christina and family
